Quite a few people have asked me why I play on the work ‘Junky‘ and it’s about time I explained the reason behind the name.
I find that when I get passionate about something I like to immerse myself fully into it, whether it’s a project, hobby or my work.
In the early days when I started out in my career, my friends and colleagues noticed this and started to called me a Junky and it seemed to have stuck.
When I started a company in the UK I was searching for a name. I came across MacJunky but found that it didn’t quite suit the project at the time, but I purchased the domain and left it on the back burner for over 8 years.
When I moved here to Amsterdam I was again stumped on finding a name that suited what I was trying to portray: a relaxed, easy going company that people could identify easily without getting mixed up with all the ‘other’ companies in my field.
So I turned to the old name MacJunky and somehow it just worked. After some research on the other companies, and their respective names, I saw the opportunity of having something quite unique, a brand that I could build on and that people would identify with, and say ‘yep, I know what he does’.
Although in some circles Amsterdam can be associated with drugs, and the word Junky can be loosely connected with it, but I thought I’d try out the name here and see. Well the gamble paid off.
After nearly three and a half years and over 3000 clients later, the brand MacJunky is easily recognizable and has grown into a name that is widely known for being an Apple Macintosh support company here in The Netherlands and also online, where all if not most, of the marketing is done.
I expanded on the Junky theme with dejunky and I have been using it for a while now as my online pseudonym. After all, I was, I am and always will be a Junky
2 Comments...As many of you are aware, I’m not just a Mac consultant/support guy I like to think of myself as someone who can see a challenge and put my whole soul into that project.
I seem to have a knack of doing what is needed, when it’s needed and always within budget.
With all of that there comes a time when you always need the right tools for the job, and Social Networking is one area that you definitely require those right tools.

Today I noticed that the Yandex bot was on a rampage through my site, in-fact I had over 3500 hits on my site from this bot alone, and that’s only between the hours of 00:00 to 09:30.
So I tried the usual robots.txt disallow trick and that didn’t seem to stem it’s mayhem. Then as I was searching for a cure from this manic bot I came across quite a number of webmasters with the exact same issue.

Today at around 09:20 I got an interesting email in my inbox, it was from my this very blog asking for a comment to be ‘approved’.
That in it’s self isn’t very interesting but once I found out that the comment was for one of my posts and the author was none other than Ron Den Besten (Linkedin) from MacRepair (the company who sued me for trademark infringement and subsequently loosing that case)

I have seen many Macs with liquid damage, whether it’s Coke, wine, or even a glass of water, and on most occasions I have been able to fix them. But I do feel sorry for some people who have only had their Macs for a few months or even weeks.
